WISSA 2020 News

Thank you note

August 3, 2020

At last, we can say WISSA 2020 is now finally accomplished. For the organizing committee, the last WISSA was an extremely risky, difficult and tense event. Even the fact that it was only possible to draw the line for the event half a year after the event was finished for most, shows how big one barely week-long WISSA can be.

WISSA 2020 was probably one of the biggest Estonian international sailing events this year. As we all know, there are not many international competitions anywhere at the moment. Of course, there may be the question that how did the WISSA in Finland still relate to Estonia? Just have look at the team page of the event. I do thank all the team with a deep bow.

Of course, organizers would like to thank all the supporters who encouraged us to take the extraordinary risks associated with this event, especially as we had to relocate: Palms, Androna, Flaka, Metallituba, Estonian Ministry of Culture, Etha Wind, Lestijärvi Parish, Strand Hotel, Talvisurf.fi and the Estonian Yachting Union. Respect!

Special thanks go to William Tuthill, the vice president of the WISSA, whose tireless enthusiasm binds us all, and all the time. Thanks, Will!

In a slightly broader view, WISSA 2020 realized the goal which the organizers set for themselves four years ago. For the organizing committee, this period included as many as three international title competitions - WISSA 2016, Winter Surf Europeans 2019 and WISSA 2020. We can proudly say that winter surfing is a recognized and popular sport in the birth region of it today!

Have good winds and see you on the ice!
